Municipalities and Special Purpose Districts
Municipalities and special purpose districts are responsible for certain filings with the South Carolina Secretary of State’s Office. If a municipality wishes to incorporate, it must apply to the Secretary of State’s Office. Additional information on this process is available under the Municipal Incorporations page.
While the Secretary of State’s Office does not oversee municipal annexations, annexation documentation must be filed with the Secretary of State’s Office. Additional information on this process is available on the Municipal Annexations page.
Lastly, special purpose districts must file a notification form with the Secretary of State’s Office every even-numbered year. Additional information on this process is available on the Special Purpose Districts page, including the Special Purpose Districts Biennial Directory (PDF).
