Municipal Annexations

While the Secretary of State’s Office does not oversee municipal annexations, annexation documents must be filed with the Secretary of State’s Office pursuant to S.C. Code of Laws §5-3-10 et. seq.

Municipalities must file a notice with the Secretary of State, Department of Transportation, and Department of Safety that includes a written description of the boundary and a map or plat which clearly defines the areas added to the municipality.
