Did you know that as of January 1, 2024, the Corporate Transparency Act enacted by Congress requires many companies to report beneficial ownership information to the US Treasury Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN)? Beneficial ownership information (BOI), as defined by FinCEN, is identifying information about the individuals who directly or indirectly own or control a company. Please review the BOI links on our website to see if you are required to report to FinCEN.

Boards and Commissions

The Office of the Secretary of State maintains oaths for elected officials and other state boards and commission members appointed by several governing authorities and issues their commissions on behalf of the Governor. Records providing the appointment date, the commission date, and the expiration date of board members and elected officials are maintained by the Secretary of State.

The Secretary of State maintains a current list of expired terms and vacancies on state boards and commissions. Our searchable database provides information on the current composition of state boards and commissions.

Pursuant to S.C. Code §1-1-1310, each state board and commission must send written notification to the Secretary of State's Office of any appointment, election, resignation, or vacancy in its membership.

If you are interested in filling a vacancy, contact the appropriate appointing authority.

The Secretary of State’s Office is also the record-keeping agency for all Ratified Acts, Executive Orders, and Resolutions.
